A pair of Halloween Cards

Hello lovelies!

I am on the Neat and Tangled blog today and I am just popping in to share a couple of Halloween cards I made with the super cute Graveyard Shift and Halloween Scene stamp sets.

First up, I tried my hand at the chalkboard technique using Halloween Scene.

I embossed the images with white embossing powder and added some sketch marks with a white pencil.  A few smudges of white ink enhance that chalkboard look. 

My second card features Graveyard Shift.  

I covered a black card base with patterned paper.  Next, I stamped the super cutie skeleton on white cardstock and trimmed it with scallops.  I die cut a bracket edge from orange patterned paper wrapped it with twine and adhered it to the card.  I stamped the sentiment on a die cut banner and affixed it to the card. A candy corn button was added as a finishing touch.

I want to hear you ROAR

So I know things have been a bit quiet on the blog front of late... hangs head... I have been busy working on lots of stuff, some of which I can't show you yet.... ;)   But mostly, I have just been busy.

One card I wanted to share with you today is my paper ode to Katy Perry's pop anthem/song Roar.  I don't know if it's hit your radio waves yet, but it's all over stations in Northeast Ohio and I kinda love it. It's so catchy and a great message too.  Check out the video here.

When you find inspiration in recent popular culture, sometimes it's a challenge to figure out how to capture it without a stamp set, for example, that spells it out. So I turned to my computer and came up with this:

 

I created a text box in Microsoft Word and typed my text and printed onto a piece of lightweight cardstock.  Next, I stamped the image of the lion (The Craft's Meow- Birthday Puns) and the starburst (Avery Elle- Bright Days). I trimmed the cardstock, punched the corners and mounted it on red cardstock.  I adhered some enamel dots in the corners before adhering it to a embossed piece of Aquamarine cardstock and attaching the completed panel to a white cardstock base.

The fonts I used were Orniste and Simplicity.  Both can be downloaded for free on DaFont.

Make a Wish(bone)

Hello friends and Happy World Card Making Day!

Just popping in to share a birthday card I made in honor of World Card Making Day.  I have been seeing wishbones show up in art and in jewelry design lately, which started me thinking that wishbones aren't just for Thanksgiving anymore.

I cut a wishbone shape with my Silhouette Portrait then covered it with Versamark ink and embossed it with gold embossing powder.  I wanted a rich, decadent look, so I applied a few coats of embossing powder.

Before adhering the wishbone to the card, I die cut a tag and stamped 'make a wish' from Avery Elle's To the Point set.  I just LOVE that font combination.  I secured the tag with a bit of foam tape and tied the string into a bow.  This rectangle was die cut with Lil' Inker's Stitched Rectangle Mats.

Sparks Challenge: Get Better at Warp Speed

Hello friends and Happy Friday!

Just popping in today to share a little Get Well treat box for the latest Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge. The theme this week is Anything Goes.

I found this cute treat box at a local stationary supply store.  It was just a plan white box begging for some personality.  I wanted to work with the circle cut out in the box front, so it became the moon for my little space scene. I used Paper Smooches Space Cadet and the patterned paper is from Studio Calico- Atlantis Collection. 

I love the Anything Goes weeks because you can really let your imagination run free and showcase all the Paper Smooches goodness!

Counting down to World Card Making Day

Hello friends and happy Friday eve!

World Card Making Day is two days away and there is excitement in the air!  I adore World Card Making Day and always look forward to the first Saturday in October.  I get to be crafty and spend time with my friends without cleaning my house, shopping for gifts or cooking a meal.... what's not to love?!

A few weeks ago, I received an invitation from Cath from Moxie Fab World to create a card in honor of World Card Making Day for a post she wrote today on the Paper Crafts Connection blog.  Cath issued invitations to card makers from all over the world to celebrate the international aspect of World Card Making Day.

I decided to make a birthday card that used that most humble of paper crafting staple, card stock.  Using the wavy border die from Paper Smooches, I die cut card stock into cascading waves and adhered them to a kraft card stock base.

I stamped Celebrate from Neat & Tangled's Just for You set in brown ink and colored in the loops with Copic markers.  

A few enamel dots in coordinating colors add a finishing touch.

Hello Stud Muffin

Hello lovelies!

I am on the Neat & Tangled blog today sharing a card I made suitable for the the big and little men in your life!  Last weekend, I was at a youth football game and saw a little boy wearing a shirt similar to this one.

 I am not sure that I have ever called anyone a "stud muffin," but I think it's an adorable term of endearment.  I pulled out Sketchy Cupcakes and thought about how I could turn the muffin into a "stud muffin."

I made a card base from kraft cardstock and trimmed a panel of patterned paper and adhered it to the front. Next, I die cut a stitched rectangle from white cardstock.  I also die cut the word "stud" using some alphabet dies on black cardstock.



I stamped the muffin top and wrapper onto cardstock and trimmed them out.  The stud part of the muffin was realized through the use of some bronze brad that have been in my embellishment stash forever.

I adhered the die cut letters and the studded muffin to the white rectangle and stamped "hello" from Just Hello to the card.

This weekend, this card will be making it's way to Grayson Savery.  You may have seen Danielle's post a few weeks back that she has reopened the Happy Mail for Grayson campaign.  You can read all about it here, and more about Grayson here.

Avery Elle- Suzani Season's Greetings

Hello friends,

Do you know what today is?  It is exactly 3 months until Christmas, and if you are anything like me, you have a LOT to do before the big day arrives.  With that in mind for this week's Avery Elle card, I decided to put a little holiday spin on Suzani.

On a rustic cream panel, I stamped the medallions from Suzani in various shades of red and green.  I borrowed the sentiment from Warm Wishes and the sparkles from Merry and Bright. 

I wanted to keep the card flat, which I think is important if you plan to mail your holiday cards. To add a bit more interest, I inked the edge of the card before debossing it with a canvas texture plate and adhering it to a card base made from kraft cardstock.
